• Yes! Laser hair removal is a permanent hair reduction, but it is not 100%

• For hair reduction, the laser targets the pigment in the hair root, rather than the follicle directly. As we’re born with at least 50 million follicles, not all follicles are awake and growing hair at the same time. Dormant hair follicles are healthy and able to wake up and produce new growth at any time, most commonly due to environmental changes, hormonal changes, as well as stress and anxiety. Other factors, such as hormonal medications (including birth control), pregnancy, menopause, or hormonal changes we go through yearly, can cause new growth; hence, why maintenance is essential to achieve the desired result.

• The industry standard recommends a minimum of 6-9 sessions to achieve a reduction of up to 70-90%.

• While the laser does not grow hairs you did not have before, in some hormonal regions (such as the face), laser treatments can temporarily make these previously unnoticed hairs more noticeable. This occurs because the heat stimulation from the laser can bring dormant follicles into a growth phase, or cause fine, light-colored hairs to grow slightly thicker or longer before they are destroyed. These hairs may also appear darker or more prominent under certain lighting, even if they were previously invisible to the naked eye. It’s important to note that this process is a normal and expected part of laser hair removal. With consistent treatments, these fine hairs usually reduce significantly or disappear altogether, especially if they have pigment (color). In the case of blonde, white, or gray hairs, laser treatment may not be as effective due to a lack of melanin, and alternative treatments may be recommended.

• We encourage all clients to be patient with the process and understand that your skin and hair will undergo visible changes before you see the final results.

• While doing laser hair removal, the only other type of hair removal you can do is shaving.

• You must shave 24-48 hours before each appointment to ensure that the hairs are not too long (otherwise, the laser will be ineffective and may burn the hairs) and to avoid irritation, cuts, or burns from shaving too close to the appointment. Razor burns are okay to treat over, as long as you do not have significant cuts or pinpoint bleeding.

• You cannot wax, thread, tweeze, or use hair removal creams (such as Nair or Veet) while undergoing laser hair removal, as lasers target melanin in the root of the hair; if the root is not present, the treatment becomes ineffective.

• With our Candela GentleMax Pro and Pro Plus lasers, we can treat all skin types, ranging from very fair to very dark skin.

• The best candidates for laser hair removal are those with dark, coarse hair. Blonde, strawberry blonde, grey, or white hairs cannot be effectively treated with the laser due to the lack of pigment, and the treatment will not yield the desired result.

YES! Our newest equipment allows for both fair and dark skin laser treatments and offers both Alexandrite (755nm) and Nd:YAG (1064nm ) treatment options. Nd:YAG, used for the procedures performed on dark skin, penetrates deeper than Diode laser available on the market and is less absorbed by the skin pigment (thus, avoiding irritation or damage while focusing on the hair follicle only). Please note, that due to the gentle nature of the laser treatment options on people of color, patients with darker skin types may require more sessions to ensure desirable permanent hair reduction results. Any medical condition (e.g. hormonal disbalance) may also prolong the treatment to achieve maximum clearance of hair growth.

Most of the procedures performed by GentleMax PRO® require no downtime. Individual skin type, skin sensitivity, and type of the procedure of course vary and the experienced laser specialists will walk you through what you may expect post-treatment. Some swelling, bruising, or redness is considered a normal skin reaction and should subside in a relatively short period of time. It is strongly recommended not to get extensive sun exposure or tan after the laser treatments in order to avoid any skin pigmentation. Remember, wearing sunscreen even for regular walks will prolong a healthy appearance and significantly reduce sun damage, pigmentation, and wrinkles in the future! • You need to wait at least 2-3 weeks after the last day of your sun exposure to safely and effectively treat any area for laser hair removal. Any exposure to the direct sun (not only tanning at the beach or the pool) over 20-30 minutes counts as sun exposure, even if wearing sunscreen (sunscreen may protect us from burns, but does not stop us from tanning). A minimum of 30 SPF is recommended in the fall/winter months, and 50 SPF in the spring/summer.

• 1 week after the procedure, keep the treated areas out of the sun, as your skin will be more susceptible to sunburn.

• Our technology enables us to treat the darkest skin types, allowing patients with a settled tan (those who have waited 2-3 weeks after their last day of sun exposure) to be treated safely and effectively.
